Mobile Toronto Vets Offering In-Home End-Of-Life Services For Pets

You think it might be time to say goodbye, but how do you really know?

Making the choice to euthanize your cherished pet can be – and almost always will be – one of the hardest decisions you will need to make as a pet owner.

And feeling scared, anxious, uncertain and conflicted are only natural feelings.

But, as pet owners, we also know that prioritizing our pet’s overall quality of life is the most important thing.

If your pet’s health has been getting worse over time – and you feel as though ‘something isn’t right here’ – you are probably correct and might want to seek a professional assessment by one of our local certified veterinarians.

After all, no one knows your pet better than you and it’s usually best if you follow your instincts and have him or her looked at right away.

Discussing your concerns about your pet’s situation with a TVELMS qualified veterinarian will provide you with the proper guidance and support you’ll be needing as you begin to consider humane euthanasia for your pet.

We’ll also help you to understand the euthanasia process and provide you with resources for coping with the loss of your pet.

Choosing In-Home Euthanasia For Your Pet Has Many Benefits.

Choosing in-home euthanasia over visiting a vet’s office or animal hospital allows you and your pet to be more involved and comfortable during your pet’s final moments.

Allowing you and other members of you pet’s life to be there will also help your pet to avoid the types of pain, stress and anxiety that typically go with being taken to a Vet or animal hospital clinic for the procedure.

Following are a just a few of the many reasons why you may want to choose to euthanize your pet at home:

5/5

Dr. Yvonne Lee went above and beyond for us during the most painful, distressing time of our lives. We had to make the awful decision to say goodbye to our remarkable girl, Ivy, after a very sudden diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma, and Dr. Yvonne was such a gentle presence in those final days. She is genuinely one of the kindest, most compassionate people I have ever met in my life.

Here are just a few examples of the exemplary service we received:

- On the morning of Ivy's procedure, Dr. Yvonne rushed a prescription for one single painkiller to ensure her final day was comfortable.

- During the procedure, Dr. Yvonne was so respectful, warm, and patient, and never once rushed us as we spent our final hour and moments with our girl. We felt so held by her in our immense pain and grief, which freed us up to focus on our love for Ivy and making sure her goodbye was as loving and peaceful as possible.

- In the days following, I felt tremendous guilt and grief and was able to text Dr. Yvonne, who reassured me over and over again and sent me resources and support. She has been a real source of comfort for us in these awful moments.

I also want to applaud the TVELMS team for waiting 2-3 days to send the invoice, so we could focus on our mourning.

Thank you, Dr. Yvonne Lee and TVELMS, for making the worst time of our lives more bearable. I'm forever grateful to you.

Frequently Asked Questions:

We know you have many questions for us and we try to answer the most important ones here.

If we’ve missed something you’d like to know, please contact us and we’ll get back to you shortly.

The cost for our in-home pet euthanasia services vary based on species, weight, how much anesthesia is required, where you live and a few additional factors.

The easiest way for us to provide you with an accurate quote would be for you to contact us as soon as possible.

Once we have your information we should be able to give you a price range to prepare for.

The majority of our appointments are for cats and dogs, although we will also help you with smaller animals such as rabbits and hamsters.

This is obviously a personal decision, but you can definitely be present should you choose to be.

Having you there will help to keep your pet calm and relaxed.

You are also welcome to stay for all or just part of the procedure.

Of course, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Part of the reason for doing this in your home is to provide your pet with as much comfort as possible and we’ll gladly help you to find a comfortable position that will still provide us with access to the areas of your pet’s body we will be needing for the procedure.

This is another personal choice that needs to be assessed by the parents and usually depends on each family and child.

If your child is mature enough to understand the concept of euthanasia, it may be a good idea.

Either way, we recommend talking to your child about the procedure, what it means, why it is happening and then reach a decision from there.

You definitely can, and your pet may find it soothing to have members of their pet family present as well.

It might also help the other pets in the home with a sense of closure.

If you think that the other animals in the home won’t be a major distraction, we would encourage their attendance.

This is definitely a popular question.

There are two injections used: The first is a combination of sedatives that will quickly sedate your pet and stop them from feeling any pain.

The second one is basically an overdose of anesthesia that stops the heart and all brain functions and usually works rather quickly.

The rest of the body will shut down in stages after that.

As difficult as this is to read – and potentially watch – please be assured that your pet will not feel any pain or discomfort at all during the process.

In total, the entire appointment usually takes between 40-60 minutes.

The sedative itself typically takes effect in 5-15 minutes, and, once your pet is deeply sedated, the final injection will be administered.

The last injection usually takes effect in about 30-60 seconds, however it could take as long as 10 minutes (depending on your pet’s metabolism).

Our aftercare services offer three main options:
  • Communal Cremation
  • Private Cremation
  • At-Home Burial
