Frequently Asked Questions

People always have a ton of questions for us and we try to answer many of them here.

If we’ve missed something you’d like to know, please contact us and we’ll get back to you shortly.

The total costs for our in-home pet euthanasia services vary based on species, weight, how much anesthesia is required, where you live and a few additional factors.

The easiest way for us to provide you with an accurate quote would be for you to contact us as soon as possible.

Once we have your information we should be able to give you an accurate range to prepare for.

While euthanasia is generally ‘cheaper’ at a veterinary clinic, there are many benefits to having your euthanasia performed at home and there are additional costs associated with that.

If cost is a concern, there may be financial assistance available to you.

Please contact us to find out more.

The majority of our appointments are for cats and dogs, although we will also help you with smaller animals such as rabbits and hamsters.

Ultimately, this is a question that people will need to answer for themselves, but we believe that humane euthanasia can help to end a pet’s prolonged life of needless pain and suffering.

If your pet’s quality of life is not even close to what it once was, pet euthanasia may be one of the kindest things you could ever do for them.

This is obviously a personal decision, but you can definitely be present should you choose to be.

Having you there will help to further keep them additionally calm and you are welcome to stay for all or just part of the procedure.

We wouldn’t have it any other way, and we’ll gladly help you to find a comfortable position that will still enable us to access the areas of your pet’s body we will be needing for the procedure.

Again, this would be a completely personal choice made by the parents and depends on each family and child.

If you feel as though your child is mature enough to understand the concept of what is happening, it may be a good idea for the pet to have more people around that he or she is comfortable with.

Either way, we recommend talking to your child about the procedure, what it means, why it is happening and then reach a decision from there.

As with all family members, your pet may find it soothing to have members of their pet family present as well.

It could also help the other pets in the home with a sense of closure.

If you think that the other animals in the home won’t be a major distraction, we would encourage their attendance.

There are two injections used: The first one uses a combination of sedatives to deeply sedate your pet and eliminate any pain.

The second (and final) one is basically an overdose of anesthesia that stops the heart and all brain functions and then the rest of the body will shut down in stages after that.

As difficult as this is to read – and potentially watch – please be assured that your pet will not feel any pain or discomfort at all during the process.

In total, the entire appointment usually takes between 40-60 minutes.

The sedative itself typically takes effect in 5-15 minutes, and, once your pet is deeply sedated, the final injection will be administered.

The last injection usually takes effect in about 30-60 seconds, however it could take as long as 10 minutes (depending on your pet’s metabolism).
